Speaker Details - John K Edgley MRAeS
John Edgley has designed and built three prototype aircraft. The Optica was the best known, and came nearest to full production with around twenty aircraft produced by the early 1990s. In the late 1990s a glider built almost entirely of Fibrelam appeared to hold commercial hopes. More recently John Edgley‘s Aerocycle 3 Human Powered Aircraft won the 2016 Icarus Cup sponsored by the RAeS. This HPA shows hope of being a significant step towards the activity becoming a recognised sport, one of the current aims of the Human Powered Flight Specialist Group of which he is a member.
